Our Faith
Our focus is on Jesus Christ - you might call him our CEO. It's pretty amazing that a man who lived 2,000 years ago still holds so much influence today. We think he's the perfect leader: a teacher who challenged, a prophet who inspired, a servant who cured, a man who died for the salvation of the world. Toronto's first bishop, Michael Power, was much the same. Caring for Irish immigrants who arrived on Toronto's shores with typhus, he ultimately contracted the disease and died before seeing St. Michael's Cathedral constructed. Our Archdiocese (geographic territory) has been around since 1841. There are examples of everyday heroes throughout the history of our church, and we look to them for inspiration every day. In a world where faith often takes a backseat, we recognize the daily challenges we face in our community. We are imperfect, weak, and we struggle. Yet there is a certain sense of comfort knowing that our beliefs help shape the people we are.

Or if you just want to understand some of those “churchy” terms you've heard at mass and were embarrassed to ask about, we have a page just for you. This is who we are. Growing in Faith and Love. |
